🏆BEST IN SHOW🏆
"Reflections," collage, 12" x 12"
$125
The coastline of St. Germaine, WI

Judge's comments: "This piece has a strong sense of place. It is an abstraction with presence. The colors are rich in eliciting depth, and the impression of a time of day, when the air is green with moisture. This is accomplished with texture and a suggestion of the material earth. I especially enjoy the use of red. The complementary color pops offering an idea of the horizon. The illusion of distance, space is working very well."

🥇FIRST PLACE🥇
"Contemplation,"  collage on canvas, 6" x 12"
$125

Judge's comments: There is a great use of pattern in the piece suggesting levels of space. The play with the implied figure looking back into time, with a legacy moving from head to heart by the linear thread unifying the top and bottom of the picture plane. The light moving through the dots gives a conflicting industrial suggestion.

🎗HONORABLE MENTION🎗
"Mother Mary at the Grotto," acrylic, 14" x 18"

Judge's Comments: "In the ritualist place of homage, prayer, the central and symmetrical position of the Mother brings a great stability, strength, and reverence. We are looking directly at the Mother embellished in a shrine of vibrant colors, floral patterns and movement in the negative space that is a celebration.

🥈SECOND PLACE🥈
"Composite of Japanese Gardens,"  oil,  30" x 40"
$2,500

This is a composite from 9 photos taken at Fabian Forest Preserve

in Kane county during a plein air with DPAL. The Japanese Gardens are
located on the grounds.

Judge's comments: "This is a precious depiction, charming in its offering of the quiet moment we all desire. There is a stillness and purity, a naivety reduced to the playful simplicity exercised in literature. The complexity of the background contradicts the modesty of the interior space allowing the viewer to be a momentary visitor or a voyeur."

🎗HONORABLE MENTION🎗
"Bonsai and Companion," mixed media (watercolor, acrylic, and marker), 8" x 11-1/2"

Judge's Comments: "There is a flatness that gives a wonderful pop art sensibility to this piece. The Bonsai, organic
twisted and slightly off is conversing with the smaller plant offspring. The use of the square in the
midfield organizes the space in a sophisticated breaking up of the field. The uniformity creates a great
graphic attitude. This moves into a suggested narrative."

🥇FIRST PLACE🥇
"Underwater," watercolor 9" x 12"
$165

Judge's Comments: "This piece captures the vision of submersion in the river where the bluegills inhabit the rocky crevices and light filters down through the wavering water. There is a reality in this work that goes beyond the literal and into the experience. The viewer knows this environment."
Picture
"Superstition Mountain, AZ," watercolor, 5 x 7
$50

"Baileys Harbor Door County, WI," watercolor, 9" x 12"

"Summer Drinks," watercolor, 8" x 10"

🥈SECOND PLACE🥈
"Contemplation," acrylic, 16" x 20"

Judge's comments: "You can feel the summer's warmth reflected in the relationship between the two figures. They seem brother and sister contemplating the adventures awaiting them on this summer's day. There is an ease to their closeness. The colors are pure implying innocence. The rippling reflections unify the painting and contribute to the beauty of this moment. The detail in the foreground is well done giving us an entry to the place."
