Exhibit: March 23 – April 23, 2016 Margaret Bucholz was born in Japan and lived there 9 years. She picked up her love for art from her mother, who is a Japanese Ikebana (flower arranging) master and an oil painter. From 9 years of age until age 21, she lived in Hawaii, where she picked up her love for bright colors and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from University of Hawaii. Now a long-time resident of Wheaton, because she has fallen in love with the changing seasons and the vivid fall colors, she does not plan on moving anywhere else soon.
Many of her watercolor pieces hang in private collections. To further her skills, she has taken many workshops at The Clearing and Dillman’s Resort from many well-known artists. In the past three years, she has studied colored pencil at Beech Tree Studios. Margaret is currently the Vice President of the Addison Art Guild and teaches private watercolor, acrylics and color pencil classes. Commissioned portraits from photos of pets or people are available upon request as well as other subjects. “There is nothing I would rather do than create art and be in the moment of creating beauty which is all around us,” she says. Exhibit: February 10 – March 19, 2016 Reception: February 12, 7-9 p.m. The Simple Elegance exhibition includes many of William North’s black and white photographs of 19th century architecture. In it, he features images of cathedrals from Chicago, Washington DC, Hobart (Australia), as well as the architecture of Blanchard Hall on the campus of Wheaton College in Wheaton.
North explores the character and gracefulness of older structures through compositions that focus on various elements or unusual perspectives. Taking details out of their context, he emphasizes the aesthetic content and offers different interpretations of familiar buildings. Although he began many years ago, North is a relative newcomer to the field of professional photography. It was not until the digital era that fine art photography came into focus for him. His passion led him to the photography program at the College of DuPage in 2010. Soon after, he began capturing images of architecture, with emphasis on cathedrals. North’s photography is influenced by a previous degree in English Literature and prior work involving architectural drafting and design. Inspiration comes from such respected artist-photographers as Lucien Hervé, who photographed the work of French architect Le Corbusier, and Frederick H. Evans, known for his images of French and English cathedrals. North shoots in black-and-white, as he believes it is consistent with the historic theme. As a result, his photographs celebrate a heritage that reaches beyond the moment. To view some North’s photography portfolios, please visit his website. Exhibit: November 9 – December 12, 2015 Reception: November 13, 7-9 p.m. The Addison Center for the Arts happily showed “Scenes I Have Seen,” an exhibition by award-winning watercolorist Robert Koch of Naperville.
